An arrest warrant has been issued after a 57-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed on a Norristown street, prosecutors say. A sheet had been placed over Cruz's windshield following the crash to hide the damage, officials say.
Jean Carlos Emeraldas Cruz had been wanted in the Sunday, May 19 crash that killed Brian Clark, 57, on West Main Street, the Montgomery County DA's Office said. Clark died at Einstein Montgomery Hospital where he died, authorities said.
Police said surveillance footage shows Cruz's Hyundai Santa Fe leaving the scene with a busted headlight and front-end damage. He and a passenger parked the car on East Wood Street. and were seen draping a sheet over it to conceal the damage, according to the DA's Office.
Authorities said Cruz later returned to the scene of the accident "to observe detectives investigating the crash." He fled after seeing police find his car, prosecutors said.
The Hyundai is registered to Jean Landscaping, LLC, and Cruz does not have a driver's license, authorities said.
